Fringe Fridays: Round-Up

It’s been a week of wonderful in the world of Fringe Fridays. Here, in no particular order, is an amazing new trailer for an upcoming stop-motion film, an old and freaky animated baby bassinet (a precursor to the un-freaky Baby Bumbo?), and a group of hard-rockin’ sasquatches. Enjoy them individually, or in one delightful package below:

Fringe Fridays: Bach is Dead

It’s time once again for Fringe Fridays, our (nearly) weekly look at animation and independent film. And since Halloween is a week away, it’s time for something creepy. You know that old joke about Bach? It goes something like this:

They recently dug up the body of Bach, and they found him erasing his sheet music. They asked him what he was doing and he said he was, “decomposing.”

Well here’s another answer to that joke, courtesy of Aniboom:

Fringe Fridays: Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You

Today marks the release of the newest animated spectacular, MGM’s Igor. The last few years have seen a boom in full-length animated movies, no doubt spurred on by Pixar’s runaway success. But it hasn’t just been animated family films making the studios take notice. Last year’s Persepolis proved that animation is not just kid’s stuff (though fans of the Triplettes of Belville already knew that). This year will see the release of two films, Waltz with Bashir and Fears of the Dark, that tackle themes of fear, nightmares, and war.

Whether your taste runs for the cute-and-cuddly or the darker fare mentioned above, check out the animated movie trailers in our Animation Network. From anime to art house to main-stream, we assemble the best of what’s coming soon to a theater near you:

Fringe Fridays: Creepy Doll

First, a general disclaimer: Fringe Fridays is not responsible for your nightmares. It is, however, responsible for drawing your attention to Creepy Doll, an animated music video by John Ink, featuring the music of Jonathan Coulton. Whether you choose to watch Creepy Doll is, of course, entirely up to you:

Fringe Fridays: Drawless Animation

Fringe Fridays (our nearly weekly look at animation and experimental video) seeks to inform, enlighten, entertain, and inspire. We don’t just want you to watch videos, we want you to make stuff happen. Today, we have something really special: Rob Schrab, the mad genius behind Monster House and co-creator of the Sarah Silverman Program, hosts Indy Mogul’s 4 Minute Film School. I could explain drawless animation (no, really, I could), but Rob does it way better.

It’s a much faster process than stop-motion, but still allows you to do some of the same things. Check out Indy Mogul for more home-brew video effects tips, and visit the behind-the-scenes playlist in our Animation Network.
