I think we can all agree that the real winner last night was probably not CNN’s hologram technology. That’s right, last night was a night of firsts. We have the first African American president-elect, and we had the first holographic anchor exchange on national television. All the web is abuzz about that magical, transformative experience. I’m speaking, of course, about the hologram.

Gizmodo has a good write-up about the tech behind it. It turns out it’s not a real hologram at all, just a kind of “live” compositing.
