Fringe Fridays: 8-Bit Meth Minute

Did you catch last week’s 8-Bit Meth Minute? The Meth Minute is, of course, the weekly animation show put out by one Dan Meth, a genius in short-format animation. It all started with Internet People, a rousing genre-establishing compilation of Internet personalities. Since then Dan has turned James Brown into a robot, introduced us to a rock star accountant, took Mike Tyson to brunch, and made stars out of Watermelons. Last week, the Meth Minute did a retrospective of sorts, squishing the whole series into an ode to 8-bit video games. The result? Nothing short of genius!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to play Super Mario Brothers.

Another Webby Winner

I was remiss when reporting on Yahoo! Video Webby winners by not including the inimitable Eboman. The master of remix won a Webby Award for best editing for ¡Viva la Creacion! See why, in the video below:

Congratulations Eboman! We are honored to be in your video presence.

Connecting People Through Video

From scientists to celebrities, the world came together on May 10 for the first ever Pangea Day. Filmmakers around the world produced shorts, using the power of film to inspire greater understand across cultures and borders. Why? In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it’s easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that—to help people see themselves in others—through the power of film.

Check out a sampling of the Pangea Day collection on Yahoo! Video.

Can’t Sing? Prove it!

Every month, the Butterfinger Comedy Network sets up a video upload challenge. Last month they asked you to submit your best pranks. This time, they want you to sing. No talent? No problem! Butterfinger wants to see—and hear—you at your song-singing worst. Just remember they want to hear you sing, so no celebrity uploads, unless you are that celebrity (in which case, Scarlett, please send it without delay).

If your video is good, by which, we suppose, that means bad, you’ll be added to a special playlist proudly displaying your vocal virtuosity. When you’re ready, head on over to the Butterfinger Comedy Network and click the ‘Can’t Sing? Prove It!’ link in the upper right corner. Or, you can go directly here.

Fringe Fridays: Too Much Good Stuff

This has been a week like no other in the Fringe Fridays department here at Yahoo! Video. Maybe it has something to do with Yahoo! Video launching in Germany, France, Italy, and the UK on Wednesday. Yes, now our friends in the EU are enjoying our awesome widescreen player, embeddable playlists, and network experience. And we are enjoying some startling and amazing work in the most universal of video genres: animation.

So, willkommen, bienvenue, benvenuto, cead mile failte, and welcome! Check out this sampling of remarkable work. A word of warning, some of it is not for the feint of heart:

For more of our good fortune, check out the animation network.

The Onion News Network Wins Webbys

Apparently we’re not the only ones to think that the Onion News Network is a stalwart of journalistic excellence. They picked up literally oodles of Webby Awards. Though I think there’s a misunderstanding. They won in a comedy category. C’mon, this is news people. Just check out today’s top story.
