What does it take to be an Internet personality? You’ve got to have guts, and a real way with words. But there’s something else too, some indefinable quality that makes us come back again and again. There are many, many great personalities out there. Here are our nominees for 2008’s Best Internet Personality:
It’s that time of the year again, that time when red carpets are walked, tears are cried, and self-important editorial boards hand out nominations to worthy recipients. Yahoo! Video is no exception. It’s time for the 2008 Yahoo! Video Awards. Each day this week we’ll be announcing nominations in seven different categories: Best Comedy Video, Best New Uploader, Best Internet Personality, Best Series, Best (totally) Indie Music Video, Best Animation, and Best Non-Fiction Video.
Unlike other tacky awards ceremonies, we’re letting you, the fans, vote. We’ll be using our amazing new embeddable playlists to showcase the nominees in each category. So if you’re nominated, or you’re a fan of someone who is, we invite you to place an embeddable playlist on your webpage or blog. Additionally, nominees will receive a little nomination badge that will link back to the blog entry where the voting is taking place.
One last bit about our nomination process: We only chose videos uploaded by creators in the year 2007. And the decisions were not easy. There was a lot of strong work in all categories.
Our first category is Best Comedy Video. So view the nominees and begin voting!
On today’s Fringe Fridays, we’re going to pull back the curtain, and show a little behind-the-scenes animation fun with our friends at Dadomani studios. You may remember this amazing piece from last year:
In this age of high-tech cgi filmmaking, it may seem like everything we see is just a pile of bytes sitting on a server. But as this making-of video shows, there’s still a whole lot of physicality involved, at least for the Dadomani guys:
This is a making-of video done right. Informative and completely entertaining in its own right. If you’re an aspiring animator, or you just like to see how it’s done, take a look at our collection of behind-the-scenes videos in our Animation Network.
It looks like Lindsay Campbell, previously of Wallstrip fame, will be starring in a new web-only show called MobLogic. From the description, it seems that MobLogic is seeking to join the crowded field of news parody shows. Of course, Campbell has always been a delightful presence on the web (read: cute and snarky), so the show may have a chance of making an impact. Check out the two teasers (particularly the second one). Add the playlist to your favorites, and check out the new episodes as they roll in, beginning March 7th.
