The Yahoo! Video Awards: The Results!
Hey Everybody,
It’s that time! Unlike those big awards ceremonies, there’s no envelope to tear open. But the final votes have been cast and it’s time to acknowledge and honor not just our winners, but everyone who’s participated. Anyone who was nominated made it there because of their skill, passion, and dedication. And there are many amazing creators who weren’t nominated this year, but who can be seen daily on Yahoo! Video. I hope you’ll continue to check us out both here on the blog, and at video.yahoo.com.
Without further ado, here are the winners, as of 9:56 am, when I rolled into work:
Best Indie Music Video: Terrene: Unwelcome
Best Animated Video: Weird Al’s Childhood
Best Non-Fiction Video: Good: Business of Death
Best New Uploader: DadLabs: Bike Rap
Best Series: The Guild
Best Internet Personality: Brigitte Dale: TVSquad Daily
Best Comedy: The PitNYC: Cooties
Everyone, both winners and nominees, should expect to hear from us soon, ’cause there are prizes to go around. Thanks again to everyone who voted and commented. And of course, thanks again to our creators! We take it as a sincere compliment that you have chosen to upload your videos to us. While there will always be some controversy about voting and results, I rather like what one of our commentors had to say:
“Thanks for creating so much exposure for all of these video makers, especially those from the indie community, where exposure for all these new incoming artists is so difficult to create. It’s been fun! which is what it’s all about in the end.”
-Kent, Yahoo! Video Team

It was a good contest! Specially the indie-awards! breath-taking stuff with the most votes on numbers 1 & 2 of all the other categories. The dark side of the contest were the allegations made against trenchcoat by some corrupted Terrene fans. They really don’t deserve that and was totally uncalled for. Sad but true.
Don’t forget that all nominees are winners. Only the ones with the most votes may put the label BEST of 2007 on their video.
21 March 2008, 7:56 pmTerrene:
Yay, we won!
Congrats to all the winners. To the top competitor in our category (Indie Music/the band TrenchcoaT): I loved your video. It looks like our fans and my online friends went all-out in their efforts, but hopefully that was good for your exposure, too.
Look us up if you ever make it to the States!!
21 March 2008, 8:52 pmTrenchcoat:
Congratulations man! Will do Terrene, no hard feelings. There never were any from our side anyway should you think otherwise. And it truly was an epic vote…
21 March 2008, 9:13 pmGood luck to you!
Doug Bresler:
Congrats to all the nominees and winners, we were up against some great videos… I love that adorable Bumbo video and Common Craft’s amazing shorts, not to mention the Meth Minute and other Dan Meth great works. Thanks so much to everyone for voting!

Gratz to all the winners and thank you Yahoo! Obviously, all these awards are owed to the fans because of the incredible support that was shown across the board! And if you can, make sure to revisit all the nominees in the series category for future episodes, because all the shows are great and are independently produced and deserve support!

[…] We are very fortunate this year to have so many new members of the Yahoo! Video community. This category honors those who started uploading to us in 2007. We could have filled a whole page with nominees, but for practical reasons, we had to narrow it down to six. After debating, voting, pulling names out of hats, and coming just short of a brawl, our editorial team came up with the following nominees. Watch and then vote below! Voting is now over. By looking at the voting results, I don’t see how the Pit’s “Cooties” video beat out the Spanish love song… Were there superdelegates involved in the decision????
22 March 2008, 5:32 pmM C:
I was watching vote totals and unless some miracle happened Kent misread the results. Please publish the results. The actual numbers as of this morning. It showed Spanish with over a 100 more votes, and it was at the same Time Kent reported them. What gives?
22 March 2008, 5:51 pmmike w:
Hold on a minute-How did The Pitt win best comedy with almost 100 fewer votes?
22 March 2008, 6:07 pmMike Baker:
I call BS!!! Spanish Love Song had more votes! When did Diebold buy Yahoo????
22 March 2008, 7:01 pmCraig D:
Unbelievable. This has a Daley-type Chicago election stink all over it. Why did you even have a vote? Next time, instead of jerking everyone around, just pick a video you like and post it as the best video, that way people won’t have to waste their time.
I do not begrudge the winners, I thought all the videos were good but there were 2 that stood out, and apparently you guys liked one better than the other.
I’m sure this comment will be deleted, you don’t want negative PR or responses do you? Or, maybe you could possibly let this comment stay up, so people can be aware that you handle votes as well as Diebold voting machines.

Does “now” mean voting is over earliar than “now”, as in yesterday? And why are you deleting my comments. They are not obscene or in violation of any tos.
22 March 2008, 7:09 pmM C:
On a sidenote, you have the ability to fix all this. Both creators know their videos were great. They should be announced as cowinners and split the prize.
22 March 2008, 7:21 pmjimbaugh:
What a bunch of crap. Cootie won for best Comedy. It was about as good a an elementary school play. Wow. Spanish Love Song had more votes! I want a recount. I will do my own show and I will pick the best. See you on public access.

Hey Everybody,
I’m truly sorry for any disappointment with our contest. This was our first time using this polling plug-in, and there was no way to do a dry run of 8 simultaneous polls with thousands of voters. I read the results via our plug-in at 9:56, at which point I copied the winner list directly into the blog posting. Everyone gets shwag, and everyone gets honored. And everyone got their fans really involved, which is really cool. I’m a fan of every single one of these videos.
Plus, there were no Jet Skis.

Kent we understand what you did. What we don’t get is why a contest slated to end the 21st wouldn’t end at midnight of that date or why anyone would just pick a time out of the air like 9:56. I suggest your next contest have an official ending time that at least makes sense. Also I think people should have to at least login to vote. That would give Yahoo more business.
