The Yahoo! Video Awards: The Home Stretch
Hello voters, nominees, journalists, academy members, and innocent bystanders,
I’m really happy that the The Yahoo! Video Awards have taken off. There are heated contests in many categories, with some folks even making their own videos to drum up support. We like that.
We’re witnessing Democracy in action here (it’s really true, we’re using a polling plugin called Democracy). There are some allegations of vote-tampering robots surfacing in the comments. I honestly don’t suspect any such polling tomfoolery, but let’s keep the commenting and the voting fun and fair. With all the challenges to the polls, it’s almost like Florida in 2000.
Keep keeping it awesome.
-Kent, Yahoo! Video Team

I don’t take Yahoo! seriously anymore, if winners are chosen after this big proxy vote spectacle… Note to Yahoo: there are ways to protect your votings from these maffia activities…
20 March 2008, 11:56 pmAgree with tc, but:
I agree. If the allegations in the comments are true, TrenchcoaT has been bribing people with pornography and using proxy servers to hide multiple votes, which is pretty lame. But as Kent says in the post, it’s supposed to be a fun thing, and it doesn’t seem to be working for them anyway. I think the Y!VAs are a great idea and for the most part it’s been executed really well!

Terrene, whoever you are: your fans are freakin’ CRAZY

Thanks for creating so much exposure for all of these video makers, especially those from the indie community, where exposure for all these new incoming artists is so difficult to create. It’s been fun! which is what it’s all about in the end. With or without proxies I’m sure their involvement hasn’t been big enough to really affect the overall results of the polling, so I still think these results are pretty valid
Believe!

I really love “Break A Leg”

When does the voting actually end? They have the starting time and date most places I look, but, I haven’t been so lucky finding the end time. I know it’s 3-21-08, but, is it midnight of the 20th or the 21st?

I am not a Terrene fan or a TrenchcoaT fan and i’ve watched the poll of best Indie Video and read most of the posts: I’ve seen the accusations and use of proxy by Terrene, Terrene-fans posing as Trenchcoat-fans saying they us proxies…the list is endless…
All this never justifies the horrific posts against Trenchcoat that are made by the Terrene fans. Surely this can’t be the way the Yahoo! Video Team has intended the rivalty!! Outnumbered or not, Proxies or not…it still is a very very sad way to compete with these kind of posts.
I can’t imagine the Yahoo! Video Team approve of these actions or just stand by wihtout taking action.

It’s actually quite wonderful watching the fan base explode like this, and as for the comments, whilst some of them verge on the not-safe-for-work, their creativity, and use of satire and irony is in quite a good spirit really, and it’s just very exciting to see a fan base so committed, and motivated, and alive. It’s not like they’re just voting, they’re totally setting up a vigil and throwing themselves into the scene head first, and I guess there’s a few comments on there that seem a bit mean spirited, but for the most part it’s just banter - it’s fantastic to see such a response, it’s like watching a parade happen right here on the internet!
21 March 2008, 7:38 amJan de Vries:
Come on! you can’t be serious when Muscifan says: “a few comments on there that seem a bit mean spirited…”
Here’s a random quote: Quote: “I hope Terrene kills trenchcoat and rapes their mothers” ….
I rest my case

Swings and roundabouts - it’s all playground talk.
Besides, do you want to be held responsible for the (occasional) bad behaviour of YOUR fans?
It’s easy to pull out one comment to make a band look bad: “If you dont want to kill yourself, vote Trenchcoat!”
Stop politicizing the issue, and enjoy the revelry. It’s a party, and you need to be part of it!
21 March 2008, 11:26 am@ Jan de Vries:
Here’s a random quote: Quote: “I hope Terrene kills trenchcoat…”
That’s not a RANDOM quote!!! You just picked the worst one you could find.
Here’s a random quote:
Nina Myers:
It’s weird that I’m posting this because I’m dead
… I mean, seriously… How random is that?
21 March 2008, 11:33 amJan de Vries:
Above here is the fake Jan de Vries btw…
Musicfan:
Sure I understand the competetive posts and I do not held Terrene responsible in any way. I’m just saying it’s sad thats all. So stop thinking that someone is attacking Terrene in any way when they critize these forum posts! I never said in any way that Terrene has something to with it!! Not anyone did! There is nog a bad post about Terrene and almost all bad posts for Trenchcoat involve Terrene somehow. Makes you wonder right?
Nuff said.
21 March 2008, 12:52 pmJan de Vries:
Btw some other ‘random quotes’ are:
- “Trenchcoat made me want to kill myself, and take everyone I care about with me”
- “So remember kids, Trenchcoat promotes Drug Use, Teenage Pregnancy, and suicide of all ages! Terrene in 08!”
- “Trenchcoat, you disgust me! My daughter happened to walk in on me as I was watching your “video,” if you could even call it that! Now how will I ever be respected as a father?! Keep your smut away from my kids!”
- “This vile influence has inspired such wretched beings like the Trenchcoat Mafia”
- “May TrenchcoaT die a horrible dead and may Terrene rape their mothers and claim victory for the next 100 years!!!”
Thats all i have to say about ‘picking the worst quote I could find” .
