Presenting the Yahoo! Video Awards

It’s that time of the year again, that time when red carpets are walked, tears are cried, and self-important editorial boards hand out nominations to worthy recipients. Yahoo! Video is no exception. It’s time for the 2008 Yahoo! Video Awards. Each day this week we’ll be announcing nominations in seven different categories: Best Comedy Video, Best New Uploader, Best Internet Personality, Best Series, Best (totally) Indie Music Video, Best Animation, and Best Non-Fiction Video.

Voting is now over. Check out the results!

Unlike other tacky awards ceremonies, we’re letting you, the fans, vote. We’ll be using our amazing new embeddable playlists to showcase the nominees in each category. So if you’re nominated, or you’re a fan of someone who is, we invite you to place an embeddable playlist on your webpage or blog. Additionally, nominees will receive a little nomination badge that will link back to the blog entry where the voting is taking place.

One last bit about our nomination process: We only chose videos uploaded by creators in the year 2007. And the decisions were not easy. There was a lot of strong work in all categories.

Our first category is Best Comedy Video. So view the nominees and begin voting!

  16. marie:

the skiddles video wasnt funny. more like torture. how did it get nominated? i mean really, is there truly nothing better than that? come on. shoot that damn puppet in the head.

  17. Sheena:

As I would have expected, the best and most clever one (New Tetris) is getting torn apart by the usual LOLcats audience. Just like television, the greatest crime is being smarter than your audience. Why do you think Roseanne Barr had a hit show for so long? The answer is in the vote results above.

  18. wow:

lol to anyone that thinks new tetris is somehow ’smart’ let alone ‘funny’.

  19. Rose C:

Best and funniest video is by far the cooties. I couldn’t stop laughing. The kids did such a great job!

  20. Dan K:

Spanish Love Song is clever, but Cooties is the best. Poor design to make Cooties the only video one has to navigate to.

  21. Jason:

Cooties is by far the funniest! Those kids are so talented especially the little girl with the pig tails!

  22. Patti C:

  23. Lisa:

I thought the first one was very clever, but I didn’t laugh. The rest of them were…whatever. Cooties had me dying laughing! OMG! SOOOO FUNNY! Very creative too!

  24. Dan:

I would vote for Spanish Mike if the guitar was in tune and the song was shorter

  25. fleepsangel:

  33. mike:

  34. ED SCHICIANO:

ONE OF THE FUNNIEST ROUTINES I’VE EVER SEEN.

  35. ED SCHICIANO:

THE SPANISH LOVE SONG IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST ROUTINES I’VE EVER SEEN.

  36. Stacy L.:

I love the commercial cootie. I think the are very talented specialy the little girl with the glasse.

  37. LAME:

how very lame. yahoo left the voting open after they officially closed it (without telling anyone) and spanish mike clearly TROUNCED the competition by a large margin given the number of votes. really lame yahoo video.

  38. Administrator:

Unfortunately the polls didn’t allow us to officially close them. Next year we’ll institute a polling solution that scales a bit better.

  39. mike w:

“Unfortunately the polls didn’t allow us to officially close them. Next year we’ll institute a polling solution that scales a bit better.”

No offense to you personally, but simply not good enough. The proper thing to do would be to re-run it with a clear explanation of how the voting works or give the award to neither or both winners.

    I’m sorry but I smell a rat.

  40. M C:

Shameful a Company with your resources can let something like this happen. Next time you have a contest, perhaps announcing the ending date. And having a webpage ready for that date would be something to think about. How did it affect the other categories? In this instance the only appropriate thing would be to make them co-winners.

  41. M C:

Oh and what Country do you work from that is fours ahead of our time? So does that mean you closed voting at 5:56 actually?

  42. me:

The ending date was announced from the begining. Don’t be such a sore loser. No one had to scroll over to see YOUR video.

  43. Mc:

Where is the ending date and time posted? No reason to call anyone names. I am not the maker of the video. No reason for you to assume so. My objections are more to help yahoo do a better job to avoid this in the future. If no one says anything and the minor things aren’t corrected then it would just make this site shabby. I am sure they want to run a good contest as much as the participants.

  44. me:

So for all your ranting “smelling a rat” and “not good enough” and wanting to “re-run it” and “give the award to neither or both” is just mererly ‘to help Yahoo do a better job?’ Are you kidding me?
Besides, just think how good the Spanish Love Song will be next year with another semester under his belt. Maybe you’ll win then.

    Sore loser.

  45. M C:

Me quit your whining, you lost and you know it. Just because Yahoo bailed you out is no reason for you to whine.
